OUR SCALE DOESN’T TIP IN
ANYONE’S FAVOR.

ABOUT US

As an independent, third-party scaling organization that is owned by our subscribers, we are proud to provide accurate and unbiased scaling and associated services to the timber industry.   Our Board of Directors that sets our policy is comprised of representatives from Manufacturers, Landowners, as well as State and Federal agencies that have a shared interest in keeping Mountain Westerns’ services unbiased. The diverse Board also ensures the integrity of a truly independent third-party organization that handles the trading of the commodity.

Mountain Western puts a strong emphasis on our work being completed safely, accurately, and above all, with integrity. We have high standards for those who work for us.  To ensure our log scalers are the most proficient, we created our own apprenticeship program to provide the industry with the best trained log scalers. In addition, we maintain constant training and check scaling of all our scalers to ensure continuity across our organization. Our scalers are the best trained and provide exceptional service.

History

Mountain Western began its story as Southern Oregon Log Scaling Bureau in 1950 located in Roseburg, Oregon. The need for third-party scaling organizations grew as the timber industry found themselves needing an unbiased party to evaluate logs.

In 2015, Southern Oregon Log Scaling Bureau and Northern California Log Scaling & Grading Bureau (est. 1951) merged to create what is now Mountain Western Log Scaling & Grading Bureau.

Today, Mountain Western remains headquartered in Roseburg, Oregon with our scalers located across Oregon and California. We are active members of Northwest Log Rules Group and follow these scaling rules for Westside, Eastside, and Northwest Cubic scale.
